Special Services

Disc Golf Course
As part of his efforts to become an Eagle Scout, Jason Rose of Boy Scout Troop 73 designed and installed a 9 hole disc golf course at Mayfair Park. The course is free to anyone; however disc golf participants must bring their own discs to play the course.

Lightning Prediction System
Something new in each park is a lightning prediction alarm. Park visitors and surrounding residents should take shelter in either their car or a building when the alarm is activated. The alarm will signify that a lightning strike is imminent with a 15 second horn blast, after which a amber colored strobe light will be on until an all clear alarm is given. An all clear alarm is signified by three 5 second blasts of the horn.

All park activities should cease when the system is in alarm. Games must be postponed for the safety of all participants and visitors. The Westchester Park District is pleased to one of the only districts to provide residents and park users this added measure of safety.

Veterans Memorial Paving Brick Program
Now you can be a part of Westchester History! The Park District, Village and Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the Veterans Memorial Gift Brick program. You are invited to purchase a commemorative brick installed at the Mayfair Park Memorial. Bricks are $ 50.00 each which includes 3 lines of type. For more information or a brochure contact the Park District.

Living Tree Memorial
Residents have the opportunity to have a tree planted in a park of their choice to be named after a loved one. The final location will be done by mutual agreement between the Park District and the party donating the tree. The Park District will acquire, plant and guarantee the tree for its normal life expectancy. Bronze plaques are available for purchase through the Park District. Tree costs are $ 275.00. Plaques are additional.

Picnic Permits
The Westchester Park District provides two areas for picnicking. Permits are required for groups of 20 or more people and can be obtained through the administrative offices at 10201 Bond Street. The picnic season begins in mid May and ends in mid September. Gladstone and Mayfair Parks provide good facilities for group picnics. For more information or to obtain a permit application contact the Westchester Park District at (708) 865-8200.

Picnic kits containing specialized sports and recreation equipment are available for rental during the picnic and block party season. These kits contain a horseshoe set, frisbee, softball bat, ball, and bases, volleyball set, soccer ball, football, badminton set and potato sacks.
